Log machines of RLM series
RLM log machine a.k.a. log moulder, log profiler, log planer, log rounder, log rounding machine
Purpose of RLM® log moulders
Log machines of RLM series are used in the log home building industry as well as in saw milling and lumber milling businesses.
- Log moulder of RLM series will work well for medium and big size businesses manufacturing 30-300 log home kits per year.
- RLM log machines allow production of different profile logs for log home kits
- RLM machines can diversify product line of saw mill business
- RLM log profilers can produce lumber and cants from raw barked stems in one pass
- RLM machines can be an interesting and optimal solution for those who think what to do with stems killed by pine beetle
Principals of RLM® log moulders
- RLM stands for Rotary Log Moulder or Rotary Log Mill
- RLM machines use the through-pass log milling principal
- Log is automatically fed into the milling head
- Milling head has number of knives which spin around the moving log
- Additional milling and rip sawing unit diversify output products

- Logs can be processed to required profile in the same pass
- Unlimited log length
- Diversity of output log profiles
- Inexpensive maintenance
- Heavy duty design
- Robust & reliable
- Able to work from -16 to +30 C
- For optimal performance just 2 men crew required (although a 1 man operator is possible too)
- RLM is patented "know-how" technology
- RLM has been developed and used since 1990

It is important to know in prior following facts about RLM-machines:
- all parts are metric
- proper automated waste removal system is critical because poor waste removal can badly affect productivity
- log sorting is necessary for better productivity
- for max productivity automatical in-feed and out-feed log decks as well as in-feed and out-feed conveyors are recommended
- speed of automated in-feed conveyor is to be adjustable to synchronize with in-feed speed of RLM-machine.
- RLM machine' rotary head can remove up to 5cm (2") on radius or 10
cm (4") on diameter of the log. It means that butt diameter of input
raw log must be not more than 4 inches than its top diameter. For
example if output product (dowel) diameter is to be = 12" and top dia
of raw log is 13" than max diameter of log butt is to do not exceed 12"
+ 4" = 16"
About productivity of RLM log moulders
Woodlandia RLM machines are most effective equipment in terms of cost/productivity.
On average, RLM log moulders are able to produce 1500 -3000 ln ft
(500-1000 ln m) profiled logs per 8-hours workshift.
Processing speed depends on:
- raw barked log diameter and shape (croocked and bowed logs are not good for RLM machines), please consider using a log lathe for crooked logs
- complexity of finished profuct profile (i.e. to mill tongue&groove on squared timber profile lower speed must be chosen than for Swedish cope profile on round log)
- infrastructure and logistic: in-feed/out-feed automation and log sorting are recommended
- wood species and moisture content
- tool sharpness
There is no similar equipment in same price range with
productivity close to productivity/quality of Woodlandia RLM log
moulders. Even better productivity (up to 5000 ln ft) can be achieved
if automatic log infeed/outfeed equipment and proper log sorting
are used. RLM log moulders are much more efficient than any log
lathe intended for profiling of house logs or competitive machines of
other manufacturers.
