Scraggers
What are Scraggers?
"Scragg-mill" is a industry slang for primary break-down sawmill producing 2, 3 or 4 sided cants.
Woodlandia Scraggers is a family of simple, yet powerful & reliable circular saw-blade scragg-mills intended to replace 5-10 times slower traditional band sawmills.
Woodlandia offers several models of "Scraggers":
Core for logs up to 15".
Scragger-RS2 for logs up to 20".
Scragger-4 & Scragger-4M for logs up to 18".
Why Scraggers are superior than traditional band saw-mills?
It is a 2-10 times faster saw-milling process:
logs are going through the milling unit of Scraggers so logs can be sawn into 2-sided boards just in one pass;Circular saw-blades provide consistent cut (band saws often create a wavy cuts);
No multiple cuts / passes & log rotations are needed;
Comparable pricing with popular high-end band mills;
It is possible to mill squared cants in 2 passes;
What are cons of Scraggers?
Thicker kerf (thickness of the cut is less on a band saw);
It may take 20-40 minutes to change tooling (change distance between the saw-blades);
3 phase power is required (some band saw may run on gasoline);
Better waste management is required (higher throughput = more waste);
In-feed & Out-feed Log Decks are required to truly benefit from Scraggers;
What are difference between Scraggers?
Design.
Min-Max Log Diameter & Length the sawmill can accommodate;
Number of spindles where saw-blades can be set:
it can be 1, 2 or 4 spindles dedicated for sawing;Power of motors used to drive the sawing spindles;
Way the logs are fed into the sawmill;
